After a frantic summer our newly formed Under 14’s finally got their season underway with a comfortable 5-2 away victory at Bishop Road Buccaneers in the Bristol Saturday League.

First half goals from Will Dunato-Davis, Zach Humber, Robbie Deane and Harry Meredith gave the team a commanding lead delighting management duo Ben Rhodes and Ricky Hemmings with some outstanding football. The Buccaneers reduced the deficit from the penalty spot early in the second half but it wasn’t long before Zach Humber doubled his tally for the day to restore the advantage. The home side reduced the arrears again with a well taken free kick before the hour mark but at no point did the young Sods look under any real pressure in the remaining minutes.

What was more impressive about the result was that it came despite the absence of goalkeeper Lewis Rice. A valiant effort from defenders Fin Langman and George Donato-Davis between the posts demonstrating the strong commitment and spirit within the team.

On a day where a number of the players shone, it was Monty Hickling’s commanding and composed defensive performance that earned him the Player of the Match award.

A great deal of effort has gone into the organisation and preparation ahead of the new season so a big thank you to everyone involved in the club and the team sponsors for making it possible. We look forward to an exciting and successful season ahead.
