Chipping Sodbury Town FC is delighted to host a special charity football match today, Sunday 4 October, bringing people together to support the Preserving Our Clock Tower Appeal.
A Chipping Sodbury Town FC XI will face a Chipping Sodbury Town Trust XI, with all proceeds and donations supporting the preservation of one of our town’s most recognisable landmarks.
A big thank you goes to Picksons for sponsoring the game, with particular thanks to local family members Colin Pick, Angela Pick, Simon Pick, Sarah Pick and Giles Pick. Their support is helping make this community event possible.
The Pick family’s connection with the area stretches back to the late 1940s, when founder Percy Pick established a car sales and servicing business in Old Sodbury. In the 1950s, he opened the Roman Camps service station on the A46, where the adjoining café, run by Joyce, became a popular meeting place. During the summer months, the garage would often remain open around the clock.
A new chapter began when Colin developed the parts side of the business, adopting the name Picksons from P.D. Pick & Sons. Picksons began trading on 1 January 1979 and, by the early 1980s, focused entirely on supplying parts to local fleets.
Since then, it has grown into an independent, family-run supplier of truck, trailer and bus spare parts and accessories, serving customers through twelve depots. From its beginnings in Old Sodbury to its wider regional presence, the business has a family history closely connected to our local area.
It is fitting that a family business with these roots is supporting an event dedicated to protecting the town’s heritage for future generations.
For Chipping Sodbury Town FC, today is also an opportunity to celebrate the role football can play beyond the pitch. Working alongside Chipping Sodbury Town Trust, we are proud to bring players, supporters, families and local businesses together for a shared cause.
Gates open at 2.30pm, with kick-off at 4pm. Refreshments will be available, along with a raffle offering some great prizes.
